Alison (Murphy) Perkins' MATC Portfolio
Thank you for visiting my portfolio! I began MSU's Masters of Teaching and Curriculum January of 2011, and this website contains a portfolio of my work while in the program. I have presented 8 artifacts of my work and have written a brief commentary describing and reflecting on those pieces. You will find all these artifacts on the webpages in the toolbar above. In my commentaries, I have referenced the six standards and three goals of the MATC program and how they are represented in my work. To the right of this page, I have included a word document with more explicit descriptions of these standards and goals. To the right of this page, you will also find my Synthesis paper, my MATC program plan which outlines the courses I have completed, a brief summary of my artifacts and evidence, and my current resume.
The entirety of my teaching experience has been in the small island kingdom of Bahrain where I taught 10th grade Physics, 11th grade Algebra, and 12th grade Chemistry at Al Raja school. I worked from the fall of 2007 till January of 2010, when I resigned after the birth of my first child Evangeline. While working to complete this masters program I have been a busy stay and home mom, bringing home my 2nd child Gabriel only a few weeks after completing my first semester. As a result of my experiences working and living in the Middle East, my artifacts represent of my growing interest in multicultural teaching and math and science teaching. Since I have not been teaching during the time of this course work, much of my work has been that of reflecting of my former teaching experiences. I hope you will also find that much of my work exhibits thoughtful and somewhat critical reflections on my past teaching practices, as well as theorizing and thinking through how to improve teaching in the future. |
